BUILDING PROJECT TIMELINE

  • 1996 - Vestry Retreat - Process begins
  • 2000 - March - St. James meets with Architect to begin plans for Church Renovations and new Parish Hall
  • 2000 - June - Dr.& Mrs. Haberkern send written opposition to our Building Plans
  • 2000 - August - Letter is distributed to neighbors of St. James advising them of our plans to build a new Parish Hall and inviting them to a tea
  • 2000 - September - Architect advises St. James that building plans will have to be presented to the Historic Commission. Attorney will make an appointment with the Zoning Board. Neighborhood Tea on September 10
  • 2000 - December - Building plans are sent to County
  • 2001 - January - St. James goes before the Board of Adjustment. Board requests an environmental impact statement. St. James cannot go before the Historical Commission until we receive approval from Board of Adjustment
  • 2001 - February - Environmental Impact Statement is provided to Board of Adjustment and St. James can now pursue approval of Historical Commission
  • 2001 - March - St. James presents Building Plans to Historical Commission. Neighbors and Commission convey their concerns with project
  • 2001 - April - As a result of the input from the March Historical Commission meeting, St. James revises the Building Plans and increases building set-backs on the Haberkern side of the property. St. James’ also modifies plans include board & batten and gables on the Haberkern side of the property
  • 2001 - June - Revisions to Building Project are received from Architect. 4’ Easement on Haberkern side of property, smoking areas removed, 2 classrooms added and large storage area
  • 2001 - July - Revised plans are mailed to Historical Commission and Zoning Board
  • 2001 - September - New revised building plans are presented to congregation. St. James will pursue going before the Historical Commission in October
  • 2001 - November - Historical Commission unanimously approves St. James’ Building Plan
  • 2002 - January - St. James appears at Zoning Board Meeting. Board request Shade Study to address neighbor’s concerns
  • 2002 - February - Shade study is presented to Zoning Board. Continued testimony from neighbors regarding opposition to this project
  • 2002 - March - Planning Board requests permission to physically inspect St. James’ existing Parish Hall
  • 2002 - April - Testimony from all parties is concluded. St. James’ Building Project is defeated by Zoning Board in a vote of 4-3 in favor (5 votes were needed to approve)
  • 2002 - May - St. James’ files a notice of appeal of the Zoning Board’s decision and also advises Town Council of our plans to appeal. Zoning Board contacts our attorney to pursue the viability of a settlement between the Zoning Board & St. James. Requests further concessions in our Building Plans
  • 2002 - July - St. James meets with the architect to pursue further modifications to our Building Plans, which would preserve the integrity of the project, but further accommodate the concerns of our neighbors. Overlay drawing is made indicating further modifications
  • 2002 - August - Modification overlay is presented to Vestry and approved. Overlay of building plans is delivered to Attorney. Attorney forwards modifications to the Zoning Board advising them that this is our final revision and asking that the Zoning Board revoke their previous decision
  • 2002 - September - Awaiting decision of Zoning Board
