WELCOME TO ST. JAMES' CHURCH
Return to our Home Page
Visitors and newcomers to our community: We are glad to have you worship with us here today. There are informational leaflets in the pews and newcomer packets available in the narthex. If you will be living in the area, please give us your name and address so we can include you in our mailings and activities.
If you are not accustomed to worship in the Episcopal Church, here are some helpful hints.
The Book of Common Prayer is the red book containing the services of the Church; The Hymnal 1982 is the blue book which contains both chants (marked with "S" in the front part of the book) and hymns (without the "S"). If you are with someone else, it helps if one person finds pages in the Hymnal and the other in the Prayer Book.
Receiving Communion: All baptized people are invited to receive. Please approach the altar rail at the direction of the ushers. To receive the Host, place one hand over the other, palm open and lifted, so the priest can place the host in your palm. To receive the Cup, use your right hand to assist the chalice bearer in guiding the chalice to your lips. If you wish to receive by intinction, you may do so by picking up the Host the priest has placed in your palm, and dipping it in the chalice when presented with the Cup. Ladies, please blot your lipstick with tissue before receiving from the Cup.
