Tricky Tray 2008
A note from the Fundraising Leader - Barbara White

Our 3rd annual tricky tray was a huge success. Over $11,000 dollars! Wow! Your support is and was tremendous. We had 222 tier I baskets and 10 each on tier II and III. Many of us received many compliments on how nice the baskets were, some commented they were the best they had ever seen at a tricky tray. We had all sorts of baskets, Christmas decorations, Halloween decorations, Thanksgiving baskets, super hero's, dolls, coffee and tea baskets, certificates to many restaurants, certificates for hair, massage and facials the list goes on and on.

Thank you so much to everyone that contributed their time, talent and treasure to make this event so successful.

The day started with many folks and their cars meeting at the church to transport the baskets to the firehouse, with a couple of people at the firehouse to set up the tables in the bay. The fire trucks were moved to the outside (thanks Jerry) and the baskets started coming in. People were soaked trying to protect the baskets more than themselves from the rain. Good thing we were able to start earlier this year (again, thanks Jerry) so people were able to return home and get dry clothes.

The weather was not what we thought to be ideal, pouring rain and wind, I was sure everyone would stay home. Surprised and very pleased they did not, we opened the doors early and let them into the seating area before 5:30 to get out of the weather. We only had 225 seats available and sold 223 tickets, our biggest crowd yet.

We had hot coffee and tea, pizza and soda and the best baked goods around for dessert. The winner's wand was a huge success for the Sunday school class, the crowd really liked them and many were sold. Thank you to all the kids in Sunday school for making them for us.

SODA CAN COLLECTION

We continue to collect beverage cans (soda/beer) for recycling. Please rinse them out before you bring them. See Rick Ames for any questions.

COKE and PEPSI CAP COLLECTION

The Fundraising Committee continues to collect Coke Product Caps and fridge pack flaps that are printed with codes. The caps can be found on most bottles of Coke products and on the inside flap of fridge pack 12-pack can cartons. These codes can be turned into merchandise for the Tricky Tray event. Last year we were able to assemble a basket of various Coke premiums. Please see the display on the bulletin board in the hallway of the new Parish Hall at coffee hour. You can also see or email Barbara Olesen for details.

CASH FOR CARTRIDGES AND CELL PHONES !

Not sure what to do with your used printer cartridges and old cell phones? Bring them along to the Lady Chapel or the Office and deposit in the container provided and they will be collected, packaged up and sent off for recycling. For all the cartridges we return we will earn points, which eventually can be turned into cash for St. James. Ask family and co-workers to give you their used cartridges and cell phones - almost all brands are accepted!

The St. James Fundraising Committee is very busy making many plans for this year. Finding a place to hold our events has proved a little more difficult than we thought but it is finally coming together. Of course, we are always looking for volunteers willing to give up some time and talent to help us plan and execute these activities. If you see something you're interested in give me a call, shoot me an email or even better join us for a meeting. We meet once a month on Thursday nights, the week prior to the monthly Vestry Meeting but after the St. James' Chapel service at 7:00 PM, gathering in the Mitcham House for planning and discussions.

2007 Annual Report:

Fundraising committee: Barbara Olesen, Ellen Infante, Barbara White and the St. James' family.

The fundraising committee mission is to raise money to support the ministries and missions of our Parish. It is however much deeper than that. The ultimate goal is to bring people closer to God to share in His Glory. Each time we go out to a fundraiser it is another opportunity to reach out and touch someone, to let someone know that we are " an open, inclusive and caring faith community that embraces diversity and celebrates the joy of Christ" and would love to have them join us in worship.

This past year was another banner year for fundraising at St. James'. We enjoyed a couple of dinners, a little ice cream and the best baked goods in town. Hopefully, I speak for everyone when I say we had a great time at every event.. I encourage you to share your ideas, help us with your suggestions and even join us. We truly need your help and your participation in all our events. Our meetings will be held once a month, the second Thursday at 7:4 5pm in the Mitcham House. Check out the St. James' website for meeting schedules, event schedules and tons of great pictures.

Thanks for all your help during the past year. We look forward to another year of fellowship, fundraising and great times.
